Liver & Pancreas
Liver and Pancreas TumorsAt Surgical Associates, we combine our experience and fellowship surgical training in surgical oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, liver transplantation and minimally invasive surgery to provide our patients with the best results possible in complex surgical procedures such as resection of liver and pancreas masses and tumors. We use minimally invasive surgery for resection of certain liver and pancreas lesions that are amenable to that approach. Our Cancer Center is a winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer, a program of the American College of Surgeons.
Pancreas tumors are usually very aggressive. Surgical resection of the pancreas (Whipple procedure) remains essential for any meaningful long term survival and possible cure. Most tumors present in advanced stage, and usually are not amenable to surgical resection. However, certain tumors that are initially not amenable to surgical resection could become resectable after chemoradiation therapy with a reasonable cure rate. At Surgical Associates, we adopt an aggressive approach to the treatment of pancreatic cancer. Our multidiscipilinary team which includes surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologist and gastrointestinal physicians, meet on regular basis to discuss cases and recommend the best possible treatment for an individual patient.
